Photographer Bill Fortney and his son Wesley, in a very personal 14 month journey, embarked across the country recording incredible vistas from the air. For Bill, flying was a lifelong dream, and this collection of images included in their acclaimed book, America from 500 Feet, is a pinnacle of his artistic achievements. Luscious ocean views from California, an idyllic coastal town of Maine, and dramatic multicolored canyons in the Southwest highlight America's spectacular panoramas.
For more than 25 years, Bill Fortney had been an accomplished photographer. However, before he had even begun his journey photographing America from his ultralight plane, he suffered numerous injuries in a terrible automobile accident. The disheartening result was that Bill could not handle the plane by himself. Into this heart-touching epic steps his son Wesley to the rescue. Wesley leaves his management job to join his father in accomplishing the goal of photographing the grandeur of America from the air. And as the father-son partnership grew, it became “the best thing that happened in the project,” according to Wesley. The story of Bill Fortney and son Wesley is an inspiring story recorded in their acclaimed book, America From 500 Feet. Discover the results of this awesome journey with America From 500 Feet - a story of adventure, flying, family support ... and about fulfilling the dream of a lifetime.
