The Friends of Ecola Creek Forest Reserve is dedicated to protect the ecological process of the Ecola creek watershed through acquistion of forest land and aquatic habitat for stewardship by the City of Cannon Beach and its citizens.

Comprised of your neighbors and other Cannon Beach residents, we are providing the leadership for fundraising to purchase, from Weyerhaeuser Corporation, 120 acres of our Ecola Creek watershed. Our Community has a brief opportunity to purchase this rare peice of forest land which is crucial in maintaining the quality of our drinking water and in protecting the established wild salmon habitat in Ecola Creek.

The Property includes Three-Fourths of a mile of Ecola Creek frontage. Within a diverse forest land of Cedar, Spruce, Alder, it contains remnants of old-growth forest and rain forest, ferns and other indigenous plants. The place is home to wildlife ranging from frogs, fish and salamanders to deer, elk and birds. Several Cedars are estimated to be more than 350 years old.

Why should we support the Ecola Creek Forest Reserve Project? Oportunities abound:
  • Monitor and Maintain the health of the forest
  • protect our water supply and water quality
  • Enahce the salmon habitat in Ecola Creek
  • Reclain historic roads and trails
  • Encourage a diversity of wildlife now declining
