Favorite SNOW Scene Contest Winners:
Winner #1: Sharon, Machesney Park, IL
Collection: The Hush of Winter by Willie Holdman
Image: Winter Wilderness reminds me of the peaceful tranquility of the woodlands that surrounded the country home where I grew up. The moonlight glistening on the fresh fallen snow made the everyday life seem so far away and less important. I always look forward to snow and that peaceful reminder of what is really important when the stresses of the world try to crowd in.
Winner #2: Kathleen, Lancaster, NY
Collection: Making Memories by Judy Gibson
Image: I love the scene Making Memories. I can remember Mom with us girls getting the spot all ready for the tree and baking cookies and having the rest of the house all decorated. We girls would run to the window every time we would hear a little noise from outside, or if our puppy would bark. It seemed like FOREVER until he finally pulled up with that great big great smelling Christmas tree! Christmas just wasn’t Christmas until that tree was in our living room, needles all over the place, Mom fussing and cleaning up the mess. What a wonderful memory. I can even smell the pine now.
Winner #3: Allen Gronsky, Irvine, CA
Collection: New England Winter by Paul Rezendes
Image: New England Winter because of the red barn siding, the contrast of the cold white winter snow falling, the trees on the hillside behind the barn shivering without their leaves, the pine Christmas tree all covered with snow, and the large Christmas wreath on the upper part of the barn. To me this is the epitome of a cold, snowy white Christmas scene and it just says Merry Christmas to me. I can almost feel the warmth of a stone fireplace inside the farmhouse and the view through the frosted window panes on a stormy night… Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
Favorite Animal in the Snow Contest Winners:
Winner #1: Stephanie, Kennesaw, GA
Collection: Snow Country by Robert Duncan
Image: Piggyback – It’s always an attention grabber to see animals outside of the habitat we are used to seeing them in. In the curiosity that it inspires, we are awed by the amazing adaptability that these animals have. Sure, it can be quite entertaining to watch your puppy discover snow for the first time, but this scene evokes an awe of how animals that we might rarely see in a snowy environment seem to proceed with their lives as though this was all they knew. Humans are often highly stressed by unfamiliar surroundings, but animals are highly adaptable, and while we frequently devote our full energy to removing ourselves from an unknown place, animals waste no time in adjusting their ways to coexist with the unusual surroundings. Looking at this scene, it’s hard to believe that these pigs and the duck have ever seen anything but snow. It seems so humbling.
Winner #2: A Second Nature fan
Collection: Polar Dance by Thomas D. Mangelsen
Image: Bad Boys of the Arctic. These polar bears are awesome, especially the one laying on his back – looking all fat and sassy like he had just polished off a great big Thanksgiving dinner and is now ready to watch the Polar Bear Football game!
Winner #3: Veda Rachoy, Calumet City, IL
Collection: Stranger in the Woods by Carl R. Sams II
Image: Wow – A Carrot. This is a beautiful scene and just amazes me that the photographer has the patience to obtain such whimsical scenes. It’s also a novel way to provide treats for woodland friends.
