Message to Extend Navigator's Capabilities When Downloading from a Web Site

If when you try to download a file from a Web site, Netscape Navigator returns one of the following messages,
  • "You have started to download the file of type application/octet-stream. Click 'More Info' to learn how to extend Navigator's capabilities."
  • "You have started to download the file of type application/unknown. Click 'More Info' to learn how to extend Navigator's capabilities."
Try one of the following solutions:

Method 1
  1. In Navigator, click Save File instead of More Info in the Download window.
  2. Specify the location to which you want to save the file (e.g., the desktop).
  3. Click Save.
Method 2

Hold down the Shift key (Windows and UNIX) or the Option key (Mac OS) when clicking the link to download the file. Navigator will prompt you for a location to save the downloaded file.

Method 3

Properly configure Helper Applications in your Web browser preferences for the file type you are downloading.

CUSTOMER APPLAUSE: I have been a subscriber to Second Nature for several years now and find that this site is an outstanding example of what an internet site should be. It is easy to use and find what you want as well as their method of ordering any collections is to say SIMPLE and effective. I especially interested in Nature pictures and the site has an excellent selection of which I now have well over 24 collections. Thank you once again for your efforts. - Richard E.
