I have loved butterflies since the age of eleven. Since then, they have come to mean three major things to me: a potent and poignant gauge of environmental health; an elegant canvas of the ways and wonders of evolution; and a sure pathway to pleasure and tranquility. I am chiefly a writer, and butterflies have enlivened all my books.
I invite you to see the following books telling and picturing the pleasures of butterflies: THE AUDUBON SOCIETY FIELD GUIDE TO NORTH AMERICAN BUTTERFLIES (Knopf); HANDBOOK FOR BUTTERFLY WATCHERS, A FIELD GUIDE TO BUTTERFLIES COLORING BOOK, WINTERGREEN, and THE THUNDER TREE (all Houghton Mifflin Company).
