Romantic Gardens of the Early 1900's

These elegant turn of the century gardens, photographed originally on black and white glass slides, were then hand colored to form a permanent record of the garden's beauty. The Smithsonian's Horticulture Division archives over 30,000 of these lantern projector images, a precursor of the present-day slide projector. Please note: These images reflect the antique nature of the source and do not possess the quality of Second Nature's other collections. It is available for for people who are interested in this subject matter.
