Winters of Yesteryear

An impressive array of international artists from past decades and even centuries ago take us back to a time when all seemed well in the world. These classic winter and Christmas paintings are a reminder of times gone by, and they will bring warmth and cheer. For example, there’s a joyous atmosphere in “A Merry Christmas from the Pears Annual of 1907” and yet another Victorian postcard depicting the decorating of a Christmas tree. Jose Frappa creates a whimsical scene in “Christmas Delivery” featuring a cherub gliding from heaven to earth on a bicycle bearing colorful gifts. The serenity of a winter sunset is beautifully evident in two images: “Glowed with Tints of Evening Hours” showing sheep meandering along a snowy lane at twilight, as well as a painting of wintery Wanstead Park in which a couple is strolling side by side.
